Someone has to say it: think before you pick your screenname, fellas!

I like to greet people by name when they stop by my chat rooms on Streamate and MyFreeCams, but it can be damned hard when a name like “dxl72mgpl8” pops up. “dirtyboxers”, on the other hand, is less of a tongue-twister, and so is far more likely to get a friendly hello! I might take a crack at one of the consonant-heavy names, or just spell the first few letters out. Don’t get all butthurt if my phonetic attempts don’t match what you were aiming for – you picked it, after all!

Sure, you can change your screenname if you decide you don’t like the one you chose, but unless you’re making the jump from a Basic/Guest member to a Premium/Paid member, it’s not the best idea. I keep track of “my guys” with a very high-tech system: I have a notebook and a pen just off-cam. I keep notes on visitors who come back over and over, but who maybe haven’t done a show with me, or tipped much. If you have done a show on Streamate or MyFreeCams with me, then I’ve taken a few minutes afterwards to make notes either in my profile notes or in my notebook. If the notes are online it’s no problem if you change your name, but especially on MyFreeCams I keep all of my notes in my little book.

What am I getting at? If you want a friendly welcome, choose a name I can pronounce. If I get it wrong, type it out phonetically and I will give it another try. If you have a name like our pal dxl72mgpl8, keep one ear open for “hi, D-X-L” because that might be the closest I get.

Oh, and when I say hello, it’s totally fine for you to reply. In fact, it’s encouraged!

Until next time, bbs.

Hugs,

Katy xx
